Club History
The Civitan Club of Wichita was chartered on August 9, 1921, with 35 members as the 38th club in Civitan International.  Mr. O. Ray Stevens was installed as the club’s first president.  Within a few short weeks, the membership doubled in size.

We are active members in Civitan International and the Civitan Region 7 District.

Membership is open to all persons of good moral character ages 18 and over.  For more information regarding dues, contact Harold L. Connell, Treasurer at 316-204-6202 or e-mail at brookiowa@aol.com.

Civitan Community House

In 1978 the Civitan Club of Wichita purchased a building at 901 Porter in Riverside that had served as Wichita Fire Station No.7 from 1926 to 1958. The original design suited the residential neighborhood and lent itself to the remodeling for use as a community building.
Civitans Lawrence Wells, architect and Keith Leichhardt, coordinator, teamed up to promote the club project. In addition, the Club financed the purchase of furnishings and equipment. Federally funded Community Block Grants supported the remodeling.

In March of 2023 the club sold the building through an on-line auction.  Proceeds from the sale were donated to the various non-profits in the community which the club has supported throughout the years.
